Learn about our Potential New Member Program

Rush is a great opportunity to learn about Theta Tau and meet the brothers of our fraternity. Frequently Asked Questions

What is Theta Tau?

Theta Tau is a co-ed professional engineering fraternity built on Brotherhood, Professional Development, and Service. We unite engineers through strong bonds of friendship and shared professional growth.

What is rushing?

Rushing is when potential members meet the brotherhood and learn about Theta Tau through recruitment events. At the end of rush, select students receive bids inviting them to join as pledges.

Who can rush?

Only those pursuing a bachelors degree in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences or SEAS with a minimum GPA of 2.5 at the University at Buffalo are eligible to rush for UB’s Theta Tau chapter.

What is the potential new member program?

After receiving a bid, a rushee enters the Potential New Member Program, a semester-long process designed to integrate you into the brotherhood. Through events and activities, potential new members bond with their class and get to know all active members of the brotherhood.

How does Theta Tau choose who receives a bid?

Because many students rush Theta Tau each semester, receiving a bid can be competitive. Each potential new member is evaluated on qualities such as personality, professionalism, and overall fit within our brotherhood. We encourage you to talk with as many brothers as possible to see if our community is the right match for you socially and professionally.
